The College of Medicine provides an array of counseling and psychiatric services that are timely, free, and confidential to help residents/fellows who are dealing with severe stress, depression, anxiety, relationship problems, substance use issues, burnout and other emotional problems through two entities that are housed separately. Counseling and Therapy Services

The Arkansas Employee Assistance Program (EAP) provides professional counseling and/or referral to community resources for a wide range of problems and situations including stress management, financial concerns, alcohol and other drug abuse, elder care, job/career issues, parenting, legal issues, marital/family problems and personal/emotional concerns.

Psychiatric Services

Dr. Puru Thapa, Professor of Psychiatry and the Director of the UAMS Student Wellness Program (SWP) provides services for residents/fellows who need diagnostic psychiatric evaluation and medication management for any mental health disorders. If needed, he will extend these services to spouses of residents/fellows.
